She gets it.

The clash we are witnessing around the world is not a clash of religions,
or a clash of civilizations. It is a clash between two opposites, between two eras. It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages and another inheritantly that belongs to the 21st century. It is a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between the barbaric and the rational. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship. It is a clash between human rights, on the one hand, and thhe violation of these rights on the other hand. It is a clash between those who treat women like beasts, and those who treat them like human beings.

Why isn’t this getting more attention?

People don’t like how we got involved in Iraq – period. No matter how abismal the human rights situation was and is over there, people (possibly just the media) are eternally more upset about how we went from Bin Ladin to Afghanistan to Iraq. Everyone knows all about the honor killings, etc. that are often unquestioned in the region. They feel we went against the idea of democracy to preach democracy…..you know this, though. p.s. That’s a great the ‘Even Steven’ clip…….p.p.s. saw your youngins’ during Camp Granma this summer – they’re cuties! maryw.
